Alec Whalen, PMHNP-BC
Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner — bringing eight years of emergency department experience to calm, collaborative psychiatric care for Mississippi, delivered by secure video.

Hi, I'm Alec Whalen, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I spent over eight years working as a nurse in the emergency department, where I cared for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. That experience shaped how I approach mental health care today — with calmness, compassion, and a focus on truly understanding each person's story.
I specialize in treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma-related disorders. My approach is patient-centered and collaborative, meaning we work together to find a treatment plan that fits your goals — whether that includes medication, therapy-based strategies, or a more holistic approach.
Mental health care shouldn't feel rushed, judgmental, or overly clinical. It should feel like a safe space where you're heard and supported. My goal is simple: to help you feel better, function better, and get back to living a life that feels meaningful to you.

Approach to care
What care looks like here.
Heard, not hurried
Mental health care shouldn't feel rushed, judgmental, or overly clinical. Appointments are paced so there's room to actually talk — about symptoms, yes, but also about your life.
Decisions made together
Treatment is collaborative. Whether the right plan includes medication, therapy-based strategies, or a more holistic approach, you're part of every decision — nothing is prescribed at you.
Steadiness from the ER
Eight years of emergency nursing taught Alec to stay calm when things feel anything but. That steadiness — and the habit of truly listening first — shapes every appointment.
Your first session
reassure
By the end of the first session, you should feel like you have direction, clarity, and someone in your corner.
Fees & insurance detailsA real conversation
Expect a laid-back, judgment-free conversation focused on getting a clear picture of what's been going on and how you've been feeling. No interrogation, no rapid-fire checklist.
Your story, not just symptoms
We'll go over your symptoms, history, and the stressors in your life — but the goal is to understand you as a person, not to reduce you to a diagnosis.
A plan you helped build
Together we'll shape a plan that fits your goals. That might mean medication, coping strategies, or a mix of both. Nothing is rushed, and you're part of every decision.
Direction and someone in your corner
By the end of the session, you should feel like you have direction, clarity, and someone in your corner.
