No Surprises Act
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers must give patients who don't have insurance — or who choose not to use it — a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before services are provided.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychiatric evaluation and follow-up visits. You can ask for one before you schedule, and you'll receive one in writing at least one business day before your appointment.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions or more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
